We always assign a translator native to the relevant country (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Lebanon, etc.).

4. African languages

We cover the main official and lingua franca languages of Africa, paying particular attention to documents from French-speaking countries (even when drafted in a local language) as well as English- and Portuguese-speaking countries.

7. Language specifics and costs

Our pricing follows a three-tier classification based on the scarcity of sworn translators and linguistic complexity.

Category 1: common languages (base rate)

English, Spanish, Italian, German, Portuguese, Dutch, Catalan. High translator availability, short turnaround times, optimised rates. These account for 50% of our orders.

Category 2: intermediate languages (+25%)

Arabic (all variants), Russian, Turkish, Polish, Romanian, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Czech, Slovak, Greek, Ukrainian, Serbian, Croatian, Albanian, Persian, Hebrew, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish. Medium availability, greater drafting complexity.

Category 3: rare languages (+50 to 100%)

Japanese, Korean, Mandarin Chinese, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Tamil, Pashto, Dari, Swahili, Amharic, Wolof, Lingala, Malagasy, Georgian, Armenian, Azerbaijani. A limited number of translators, complex writing systems.

Category 4: very rare languages (custom quote)

Tibetan, Classical Mongolian, Khmer, Burmese, Lao, Yiddish, Syriac, Central Asian languages, Native American languages, Sami. Exceptional expertise, pricing set on a case-by-case basis. Minimum turnaround of 96 hours.

See the detailed pricing table: full 2026 rates.

8. Possible language combinations

Language combinations are always determined by the document's intended final use.

For use in France: translation INTO French

All documents intended for a French administration, a court, a town hall, or a French consulate must be translated into French. Our main catalogue: 60+ source languages → FR.

For use abroad: translation FROM French

French documents (civil status certificates, diplomas, judgments, contracts, articles of association) intended for use abroad (visa, studies, marriage, international inheritance, relocation). Available combinations: FR → 40+ target languages.

Non-French combinations (EN → ES, DE → IT, etc.)

Our translators, sworn in France, primarily certify translations to and from French. For needs between two non-French languages (for example EN → ES without passing through French), we work with our international network to provide translation plus local certification in the destination country.

9. How we guarantee quality across all languages

Guaranteeing consistent quality across 60+ languages is our daily challenge. Here are the five pillars of our approach.

Specialisation by language
Each translator only works in their native language(s), never in a language learned later in life.
Double cross-review
Two experts in the language combination validate every translation before dispatch.
Up-to-date legal glossaries
Terminology validated by our editorial committee, specific to each language pair and each field.
Regional variants taken into account
Moroccan vs Egyptian Arabic, European vs Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified vs Traditional Chinese: the right variant for every document.
Formal compliance check
Systematic verification that all 7 mandatory elements are present before dispatch, across all languages.
Rejection guarantee
If the administration rejects the translation, we redo it free of charge within 24 hours, in any language.

10. Dialects and regional variants

Understanding these variants is essential for an accurate legal translation. Here are the main subtleties our translators take into account.

Chinese: Simplified (PRC) vs Traditional (Taiwan, Hong Kong)

The People's Republic of China uses simplified characters (jiǎntǐzì). Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macao use traditional characters. Our translators cover both systems depending on the document's origin.

Arabic: 6 main variants

Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) is used in official administration in most countries. Regional variants appear in proper names, place names, and certain expressions: Moroccan Arabic (Darija), Algerian, Tunisian, Egyptian (Masri), Levantine (Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Palestine), and Gulf Arabic (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait).

Portuguese: Portugal vs Brazil

Since the 1990 Orthographic Agreement, the two variants have grown closer, but significant lexical, grammatical, and administrative differences remain. A Brazilian document must be translated by a Brazilian translator, and a Portuguese document by a translator from Portugal.

Spanish: Spain vs Latin America

Peninsular Spanish (Spain) differs from Latin American variants (Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, etc.) mainly at the lexical and administrative level. The Real Academia Española (Spain's royal academy for the Spanish language) coordinates with the 22 Latin American language academies.

Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian, Montenegrin

Languages derived from the unified Serbo-Croatian of the former Yugoslavia, now officially recognised as distinct. The differences are mainly sociolinguistic and alphabetical (Cyrillic for Serbian, Latin for Croatian).

English: British, American, Canadian, Australian

Spelling differences (colour vs color, traveller vs traveler), as well as legal and administrative terminology, are all taken into account. A US diploma is translated with the appropriate equivalence to the French LMD degree system, while a UK document follows UK terminology.

Frequently asked questions about languages

How many languages does Transdoc translate?

More than 60 source languages into French, and from French into 40+ target languages. Our network covers all official EU languages, all Arabic and Middle Eastern languages, the main Asian and African languages, and numerous rare languages through experts registered with the Cour de cassation.

Do you translate both from and into French?

Yes, both directions are possible. For use in France (prefectures, town halls, courts, consulates), the translation must always be INTO French. For use abroad (visa, studies, marriage, inheritance), the translation is done FROM French into the destination country's language.

Which languages are most in demand?

Transdoc's top 10: English (28%), Arabic all variants (15%), Spanish (9%), Portuguese (7%), Italian (5%), Russian (4%), Mandarin Chinese (3%), German (2%), Romanian (2%), Turkish (2%). These 10 languages account for around 75% of our orders.

Are prices the same for all languages?

No. Three pricing tiers: common languages (EN, ES, IT, DE, PT, NL) at the base rate; intermediate languages (+25%: Arabic, Russian, Turkish, Polish, Hungarian, etc.); rare languages (+50 to 100%: Japanese, Korean, Thai, Swahili, Tibetan, Khmer). See our full pricing table.

Do you handle regional variants (Moroccan vs Egyptian Arabic, European vs Brazilian Portuguese)?

Yes. We always assign a translator familiar with the specific variant: Moroccan, Algerian, Tunisian, Egyptian, Levantine, or Gulf Arabic; European or Brazilian Portuguese; Peninsular or Latin American Spanish; Simplified (PRC) or Traditional (Taiwan/Hong Kong) Chinese; British, American, Canadian, or Australian English.

Can foreign sworn translators translate documents for use in France?

No. For use in France, only a translator registered with a French Court of Appeal or on the national list of the Cour de cassation can produce a valid translation. A sworn translator in the UK, a traductor jurado in Spain, or a vereidigter Übersetzer in Germany is not recognised by the French administration.

What if my language is not on the list?

Contact us directly at +33 1 84 80 21 20 or by email: we have access to the entire French network of expert judicial translators (the lists of all 36 Courts of Appeal, plus the national list of the Cour de cassation). Most rare combinations can be handled within 3 to 5 business days, sometimes via English as a pivot language.

Do rare languages require a longer turnaround?

Yes, allow 72 to 96 hours instead of the standard 48 hours for rare languages (Japanese, Korean, Thai, Tibetan, Khmer, Central Asian languages). Sworn translators for these combinations are limited in number, so assignment takes longer. An express service remains available for urgent cases, at an additional cost.
